Welcome to the Trojan Records official website and forums
In 1964, Millie’s ‘My Boy Lollipop’ became one of the biggest selling singles of the year, topping the national charts in numerous countries and reaching the second spot in both the UK and the US, selling an estimated seven million copies along the way.
Further mainstream hits followed in ‘Sweet William’ and ‘Bloodshot Eyes’ and after a five-year spell under Chris Blackwell’s wing, she moved on to record for both Decca and Trojan. But in 1971, she called time on her recording career and while she has recently resumed recording work, no new Millie material has since issue since then.
In 2004, Trojan’s released an expanded edition of the 1970 LP, ‘Time Will Tell’, but the hit Fontana material has so far yet to feature on any official collection of her work.
Now, the Island’s 50th year, the wait for a serious anthology of her career appears to be over, with the record that helped propel the label to greatness the focus of a long overdue set that will highlight the best of her Fontana, Island, Decca and Trojan work, from 1963 to 1970.
In readiness for the release of the CD, we would like to hear from anyone who has any interesting recollections or memories of the singer, while any pictures, label scans or ephemera would also be most welcome.
As usual, please send your emails to us at trojanwebsite@googlemail.com.
